EMMITSBURG, MD ~ March 28, 2008
The Daughters of Charity recently held a weekend of prayer and reflection for single Catholic women interested in discerning a vocation as a Sister.
The retreat was held in Emmitsburg, Maryland — home of the Basilica of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton and the Daughters of Charity — the weekend of Friday, February 29th through Sunday, March 2nd. These young ladies set aside their time to pray with the Sisters on this most important decision for their future. Read several of the reflections gathered from these young ladies.
I had a glimpse of both: religious life & life in The Daughters of Charity Community from the old yet youthful members-Sisters, to our two inspiring postulants, Salvatrice and Tiff – both for easing us up, as well of considering to take our first steps. God bless you all abundantly.
It’s so easy to get lost in the ways of the world; my studies, job and sleeping takes up most of my time, but there are days when I have these moment. I can’t quite explain them. I asked myself what’s the purpose of my life? What am I called by God to do? And being here, helped to answer some of my inner/enduring questions.
I felt so supported by the prayers of the DOC, who knew we were coming and were so happy to see us and to be with us. I felt blessed!
This weekend was a really great opportunity to get away from all of the hustle and bustle of my life and really pray over my vocation. The time with the Sisters to hear their discernment stories and their joys in the order was invaluable. I leave with a lot to pray over.
This weekend was a great weekend! Each session and formal and informal gathering helped me to learn more about the Daughters of Charity and who they are and their missions. Overall, it was a great opportunity to listen to God’s call and further discern my vocation.
